Hot this week: smart SUV / NIO ES8 detailed review from cleantechnica

This weekend smart published a press release where they shared some of the details in regards to the SUV they’re working on.

Smart has always had a sense of what the future holds. They were the first car manufacturer to fully switch from a combustion engine to electric cars. Along with that, some of the bigger players are backing this company up. It is mentioned in the press release that the exterior and interior will be handled in the Mercedes-Benz Design network. While Mercedes handles that, Geely (the Chinese company behind Volvo, besides others) will take care of its smart systems. What we hope will come out of this collaboration is a vehicle that will set the standards.

“We’re celebrating an important milestone with the smart Concept #1, which is the forerunner of the next smart generation. The near-production study is an exciting taste of what our customers can expect from the smart brand. The new smart Concept #1 is the first glimpse of our vision of a new and sustainable mobility. It’s characterised by progressive design, premium equipment and advanced technology.” – Daniel Lescow, Vice President Global Sales of smart Automobile Co, Ltd

We encourage you to read the full press release!

NIO ES8 Norway Tests – review from CleanTechnica

CleanTechnica released a detailed review of the NIO ES8, that they tested in Norway. The review was comprehensive, enthusiastic, and we drew a lot from it. We enjoyed the part about different driving options (Comfort, Eco, Sport), as well different regenerative braking modes(very low, low, standard). BaaS (Battery as a Service) is another thing you might wanna look into, because you can buy this car without a battery, in case you weren’t aware. The market is being revolutionized by their innovations. The gear shifter is super simple, yet innovative, plus the sensors and cameras included will never allow you to hit anything or anyone.

ES8 also has a dedicated selfie camera!

NIO added over 100 features to ES8 since 2018, which just shows how dedicated they are. Please visit the link below for a full review of the car.
