Recently, Volkswagen’s major factory in Wolfsburg was underutilized. The significant production facility’s lines remained stationary, and workers were sent to short-term assignments. The chip problem, which at VW means that vehicles with large margins are supplied with rare components and chips first, is the main cause.
From 2026, a second electric model will be produced in Wolfsburg. The new vehicle, which will be built on an updated version of the present MEB electric platform, should be around the size of today’s Tiguan (“MEB plus”). The action and time were confirmed by a representative to the Handelsblatt.
The Handelsblatt stated that the VW Tiguan electric is going to be produced in Wolfsburg in the days leading up to the significant planning round at VW last week. The name adopted for this vehicle will most likely be ID.Tiguan.Yet, it was unclear exactly when the car should leave the main plant’s manufacturing line. Although the Tiguan is of similar dimensions to the current electric SUV VW ID.4, Tiguan is expected to gain a greater battery capacity and stick true to the original design.
Wolfsburg also produces the Golf, Touran, and Seat Tarraco in addition to the Tiguan. Also, the site is being readied for Volkswagen ID.3 from Zwickau overflow production. VW is using the electric Tiguan as a temporal buffer until the significant upcoming vehicle with the working name “Trinity” can enter production. This vehicle will also be produced in Wolfsburg.
