There will be only one battery pack available with a capacity of 77kWh, offering up to 520 km (320 mi) of range. DC fast charging is available, but only up to 135 kW for the entry model and 150 kW for the GTX version. With this speed, you can expect to gain 390 km (240 mi) in 30 minutes with ID.5, and 320 km (200 mi) with ID.5 GTX. With a peak charging power of 150 kWh, 100km of range should be added every 6 minutes, all things equal.
Looking at the exterior, Volkswagen ID.5 is just beautiful. It’s got a shape similar to that of the Audi E-Tron Sportback, but with way less power. It packs a little more room in the boot space than ID.4, offering 549 liters. Because of the sloping roofline, the ID.5 is a little less practical compared to the ID.4 Nevertheless, this little detail makes the vehicle look much better. Dimensions of the car look like this: LxWxH – 4599 x 1852 x 1613 mm. With a wheelbase of 2766 mm, Volkswagen offers enough space for all types of passengers.
While there’s only one battery choice, VW offers three powertrain variants for the ID.5. The ID.5 Pro base model features a rear-mounted electric motor rated at 128 kW (172 hp/174 PS) and 310 Nm (229 lb-ft) of torque, while the mid-range ID.5 Pro Performance has the same layout but a more powerful motor making 150 kW (201 hp/204 PS) and 310 Nm (229 lb-ft) of torque.
A total of 30 different ambient lighting packs are available, depending on the mood you’re in. The new ID.5 gives you a complete picture of everything that matters. The standard augmented reality head-up display puts critical information right into the windscreen’s field of view. A voice assistant that wakes up when you say “Hello ID” is also a plus. It has a sophisticated system of translating what you say, allowing you to drive the car without any distractions. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard.
Volkswagen ID.5 is supposed to hit markets in the first quarter of 2022. Stay tuned for more interesting news!
